73 toyota tercel antenna removal?

i have a 1973 toyota tercel and i put a new radio in it and re did the wiring harness but the am/fm radio part isnt working but cds and stuff does .. i was thinking the wire from the antenna that hooks in to the radio wasnt hooked up and i was wondering how to remove the antenna without having to take off the fender .. how is it held in place? could that be the problem, is there anything else that could cause it to just be static, you cant find a station at all ... please help and thank you in advance
