How many push-ups can I safely do a day/week?

Hi, I'm 14 (15 in a couple of weeks) and weigh just over 8 stone. I am interested in doing regular push-ups throughout the day, but have heard that overdoing my body can cause muscles to be ruined. At the moment I am doing 10 on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, as at 15 my arms start to hurt, and I'd like to be able to improve this to daily and then at frequent intervals throughout the day. Is this right, or should I (can I) safely do more? Or should I do less?
